The Charities Act 2011 received Royal Assent - 2011-12-15

The Charities Act 2011 received Royal Assent on 14 December and will come into force in March 2012. The new Act repeals and replaces the Recreational Charities Act 1958, the Charities Act 1993 and many of the provisions of the Charities Act 2006.

The new Act fulfils a commitment to consolidate existing legislation that was made at the time that the Charities Act 2006 came into force. The consolidation Act does not change the underlying legislation in any way although new references will be derived from the Act, and these will be reflected in guidance published by the Charity Commission in due course.

The recently announced review by Lord Hodgson of the operation of the Charities Act 2006 will go ahead as planned.
