Marie Lammin
Business Assurance, second year AAT trainee
“After sixth form, I knew I didn't want to go to university, so I decided to study for the AAT. That way I'd have a respectable qualification in under two years and a chance to progress to the ACA. When I applied through HAT, they recommended Littlejohn. I was fairly new to accounting, but Littlejohn's two-week introduction to basic bookkeeping and auditing was very thorough.
“The Business Assurance division covers more general audit work. This appealed because it would give me a wider knowledge of how companies operated and wouldn't be too specialised.
“If I'm out on a job, I'll be responsible for performing testing on income and expenditure and on the balance sheet under the guidance of an assignment leader. If I'm at the office I'll be casting accounts, working on financial statements and doing general administrative work. There's a lot of variety and so far I've done work for charities, the European Commission, several insurance companies and a software company. I've also been able to do some travelling – various places in England and a week in Geneva on an audit, which was great."
